PDS Development and Integration
The PDS architecture leads to the build up of stations and centres by assembly of Facilities, it implies the following PDS development & integration logic:
- PDS Facilities are developed by subcontractors and acceptance tested as such;
- Assembly, integration and testing of the various facilities is performed in factory on a Reference Platform, representing the configurations of the PDHS, PDCC, LRAC and a reference PAC;
The full deployment and assembly of facilities is then performed on the ESA sites for a final on site acceptance test.
PDS testing will make extensive use of Instrument test data provided by ESA through the use of instrument simulators or reconditioning of ERS in-flight data.
Two versions of the PDS will be developed and delivered:
- For the PDS V1, emphasis is put on the validation of complete functions:
- Kiruna/PDHS-K:
- PDHS validation on the reference Platform
- No deployment
- ESRIN/PDHS-E:
- PDHS validation on the reference Platform
- Dry run for the hardware and software installation
- Kiruna/LRAC:
- LRAC validation on the Reference Platform
- No deployment
- PDS V2 delivery will contain:
- all facilities in final versions except MCF and GSP (version 1 only) deployed on sites
- Required Centre/station internal communication infrastructure
- Communication interfaces to ESA's CFI communication infrastructure
To anticipate the overall ENVISAT-1 integration, a deployment of User Services to ESRIN as well as a second instance of the PDCC is foreseen during the development of V1/V2.
