MERIS CCD Array

Each of the 5 cameras of MERIS is equipped with one CCD array installed in the focal plane of the spectrometer optical bloc of the camera (CCDP.jpg). The picture, (CCDD.jpg) illustrates the CCD operation.: spectral line and position across the swath observed by each CCD pixel within the MERIS image of each camera. Each CCD horizontal line provides the image, within a spectral band of 2.5 nanometers, of the swath covered by one camera (about 200Km swath on ground with a resolution of 260 meters).
