Berne Map Image Description

This is a height map derived from a pair of ERS-1 Berne SLC quarter scenes. The colour is derived from the calculated interferometric height, with one rotation of the colour wheel being 300 metres. The image brightness is related to the SAR image intensity.

The Aare river is clearly visible running through the city of Berne and the Wohlensee, into Lake Biel and then to the northeast. Lake Murten is seen in the southwest corner of the image. The steep Jura mountains are visible in the image's northwest corner. The slant range image has been subsampled 3 × 3 after first performing 5 pixel averaging in the azimuth direction.
