AATSR Latitude Dependent Correction Information

The retrieval errors of the AATSR dual view coefficients were analysed by Andrew Birks at RAL. The coefficients are global and whilst the mean retrieval error over all the atmospheric profiles is zero, if the retrieval errors are plotted according to the latitude of the profile then a variation in the errors appear. This is more pronounced when the 3.7 micron channel is not in use, and so a bias appears between dual-view retrievals using the 3.7 micron channel and those that do not. The derivation and application of the correction for this bias are detailed in the AATSR Technical Note: Latitude Dependent Bias Correction, A. Birks, June 2006.
